DSD- DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN

In order for the dentist to be able to design the perfect smile, it is imperative that he/she takes into consideration important parameters and aesthetic rules. These can be easily defined through the Digital Smile Design program, which enables both the dentist and the dental technician to digitally try out the aesthetic and functionality of a smile before they actually proceed.

(a) Enameloplasty/Odontoplasty

Odontoplasty is a cosmetic treatment option where the size and shape of a tooth is altered to improve its aesthetic contours. Only the very surface of the tooth's enamel is reshaped, in order to improve the tooth's appearance in a minimally invasive manner. This procedure is simple, fast and offers drastic aesthetic results in a single visit.

(b) White composite fillings (in front and back teeth)

Composite resin is a filling material designed for aesthetic dental restorations. Composite resin filling contains no metal and can be shaped to resemble a real tooth. A composite filling can restore the original strength as well as the natural appearance and colour of the tooth. Composite fillings are often used for filling dental cavities and for cosmetic bonding of front teeth, or for small to medium sized restorations of posterior teeth.

A "diastema" is a dental term referring to a space or gap between two teeth. Composite restorations are ideal for the closure of certain tooth diastemas without the need for major invasive prosthetic procedures.

Since composites are "bonded" in a cavity, the dentist can remove less tooth structure than would be needed for old amalgam restoration. Furthermore, composite restorations provide good durability and resistance to fracture in teeth restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. At Smalto Dental Clinic we often apply multiple fillings in a single visit for faster and more effective treatment, and for the patient’s convenience.

(c) Composite / Porcelain Veneers

A dental veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface. Veneers are the most common aesthetic solution for a variety of dental conditions of the front teeth. Veneers are most often applied to correct discolourations, diastemas (spaces between teeth) or severely cracked, chipped, or crooked teeth. They are a desirable alternative to crowns since they allow for the healthier maintenance of the tooth structure.

Composite veneers are an easy and quick solution (one or two office visits), suitable for cases that do not require extensive and demanding corrections of the front teeth. Selected shades of composite resin are applied directly to your teeth and carefully sculpted into the desired shape.  This type of veneer does not normally require significant tooth reduction prior to placement; however it may be difficult to improve severely crooked or dark teeth using this method.

Porcelain Veneers consist of a thin, semi-translucent laminate of porcelain that is permanently bonded to your teeth and are a great option as they are minimally invasive requiring only a small amount of tooth reduction. Dental Veneers offer a more conservative approach to changing a tooth's colour and shape than Crowns. Porcelain allows us to replicate the shade, edge translucency and surface texture of natural teeth and achieve the most realistic and aesthetic results possible. The procedure often requires only two visits, while veneers can last indefinitely, provided they are well taken care of. They are also more resistant to stains and chipping than regular composite bonding.

(d) Full porcelain crowns (metal free)

With the advent of dental bonding technology, dental crowns can now be made purely of ceramic without the use of any metal. Porcelain allows us to replicate the shade, edge, translucency and surface texture of natural teeth and achieve the most realistic and aesthetic results possible. At Smalto Dental Clinic we offer all types of all-ceramic crowns. We select the appropriate type according to your cosmetic needs.
